Tranquil Longtail in Thailand

If someone was to ask me what my favourite day of 2024 was, I'd say this day.
We went to Krabi in Thailand on our honeymoon (part of a multi centre trip) and as soon as we booked it, I knew I wanted to experience a longtail boat trip. The traditional wooden longtail boats of Thailand that you see on all the socials and advertisements. Now I didn't want just any old longtail boat, I had my heart set on a private one where we could island hop and enjoy it properly and not with 10 other people crammed on the wooden seats. After all, it was our honeymoon so wanted it to be a special experience. That is exactly what we got.
I found Krabi Escapes through Instagram and instantly knew their company was what I was looking for. It was like it was tailored for me! The page had their WhatsApp details so I messaged to enquire and received a quick response with endless options.
The description read;
Exclusive longtail boat hire
Guide and photographer
Hotel pick up and drop off
Private picnic on one of the islands
Snorkelling equipment and paddle board
Half day or full day
Options of islands to choose from
I opted for a half day sunset tour which included stops at Hong Island, Hong Lagoon and Lao Lading island. This worked out at around £168 for everything for both of us. I was really happy with this for what was included.
As much as I loved everything we did on the honeymoon and all the incredible experiences we had, this was a day I'll never forget and one I was counting down for.
We originally were getting picked up from our hotel at 2pm but I received a message on the day to ask if they could pick us up earlier to ensure we could visit all the islands before the crowds. I was very impressed with this straight away and knew they had the customers happiness and satisfaction at heart. We were picked up in a private car and driven to the boats. Upon seeing the Krabi Escapes boat lined up near others, I immediately could see it stood out from the rest. Immaculate, well kept, boho decor and furnishings, personalised cushions and the front of the boat kitted out to relax on. It screamed pure luxury.
One memory that will never leave me is sitting on the front of the boat on the way to Hong Lagoon, listening to music (Taylor Swift - Fortnight I distinctly remember), wind in our hair and admiring the beautiful ____ ocean and scenery. When we arrived at Hong Lagoon, the captain slowed right down and the guide, like a professional photographer and like she knew me very well, was more than generous with her picture taking and videos skills. We sat on the front of the boat taking in the beauty of the lagoon, while the guide snapped away.
Once anchored and at a standstill in the lagoon, we were able to jump off the boat to swim and try our hand at paddle boarding. Not a sport I have mastered but my husband loved it. I enjoyed just swimming in the beautiful vibrant turquoise lagoon. For a while, we were the only ones there.
Next we headed to Hong Island and Lao Lading island. Again, met with gorgeous turquoise waters and white sand beach. Both were home to wooden swings which gives the perfect photo opportunities which our guide and us took full advantage of. We even managed to do some snorkelling at Hong Island. We really felt like we were in a movie set.
We had a third stop for more snorkelling before our final island which was in time for the sunset and picnic. We had a quick change from swimwear to nicer clothes while our guide set up the incredible picnic. I could not have imagined a more perfect end to the most magical day. Watching the sunset on a secluded island in Krabi eating a picnic, will forever be engrained in my memory and one of my favourite life moments. As we headed back to land, I remember feeling extremely relaxed and extremely grateful that I got to have this experience.
If you plan on going to Thailand, I highly recommend spending a little bit more on a private boat trip and if you are heading to Krabi, then booking Krabi Escapes is a must!
