When life gives you lemons... drink Limoncello!

Sitting on a rooftop terrace on Monte Solaro, Limoncello Spritz in hand, clear blue sky and melting in the baking sun, I can't help but think how lucky I am in this moment. This was a true highlight of my time in southern Italy despite paying 18 euros for two drinks!
I have always wanted to visit Italy so I jumped at the chance when my friend suggested us book to go for my birthday. To get the best value and to do more with our budget, we decided to base ourselves in Naples (known as Napoli) and have day trips to the well-known islands of Capri, Sorrento and Positano via the ferry.
Capri was our first port of call and quite possibly entailed one of my favourite experiences to date. Stepping off the ferry, we were met with turquoise waters, an array of boats in the harbour and a wave of unbearable heat that instantly made us breathless. "Anacapri ... Anacapri", a woman in a company uniform was shouting to the heard of tourists that had just arrived. The company representative was enticing tourists to use her mini bus to be transported to Anacapri - a commune on the island of Capri and the highest part of the island with scenic 360 panoramic views. Hearing the news that we could skip the bus queue for 5 euros each in an air conditioned mini bus, we were sold! We made our way to Anacapri via the winding streets and on occasions, had to wait for an oncoming vehicle to pass as we neared the edge of the road. Striking florescent bougainvillea which grows up to 40 feet tall is dotted all over the island, lining streets, roads and dressing the white-washed buildings giving the island a romantic and dreamy feel.
Eventually, the famous chair lift was in sight and I knew we had reached Anacapri. Sunglasses on and water bottle in hand, we stumbled out of the mini and as if almost instantly, I could feel beads of sweat forming on my skin (even in places I didn't know I could sweat from!). Gradually, we strolled to Piazza Vittoria in hope to take the chairlift to the top of Monte Solaro. With every step, it became harder and harder with a noticeable incline but the spectacular scenery and view made it worthwhile.
For twelve quick minutes, we were surrounded by greenery as we made our way to the summit of Capri's mountain. When we reached the top, we were met by a pristine classy rooftop café bar filled with cushioned white chairs, coffee tables and large white umbrellas. The café bar in itself was a charming attraction but the main focus being at the top of Monte Solaro was the outstanding 360 view which highlighted just how high up we were. Surrounded by immaculate blue waters, our eyes were drawn to the famous rock formations in the sea that were encircled by boats and looked like tiny dots from where I was standing. Everywhere I looked appeared to be impressive viewpoints which made it easy to see the beauty of the island and it was made clear that this location was the essential spot to capture countless photographs: despite how well the photos turned out, they still didn't quite capture the beauty that was in front of my eyes.
After a mini photoshoot atop Monte Solaro, the heat got the best of us and thirst took over. First we ordered a Limoncello Spritz at the modern looking bar (what else do you drink in Southern Italy?) then proceeded to find the perfect place to sit. We chose a slightly shaded spot inhabiting comfy white sofas and a clean white coffee table giving it a homely yet luxurious feel. Although we were partly in the shade, it failed to shield us from the excruciating heat but with the first sip of our cocktails, the cold sensation ran down my throat giving a sense of relief and satisfaction. All of a sudden, I was at ease sat in this awe-inspiring paradise. A wave of gratitude gushed through my mind and I felt so lucky that I was able to experience this moment, on this rooftop in the truly captivating Capri.
